PRESS PLAY AND BASK IN THE GLOW OF SOFT LIGHT | STAY ALIVE | JOSE GONZALEZ
Soft light refers to a broad light source compared to the subject that creates softer tones and transitions between highlights and shadows. The broad, diffused light allows for the light to wrap around the subject or person, warming the curves and slowly transitioning between tones.
Soft lighting conditions often occur when the light source is diffused in some way, such as the sun's light on a cloudy day, around sunset, or when standing in a pool of open shade. Open shade is when the sun may look totally bright and sunny around you, but you are standing in a shadow, which creates even lighting over the subject.
For weddings, I strive to find broad light sources when possible for details, family portraits and at least a portion of your couple's portraits. Even, soft lighting can allow for softer tones and beautiful details, more even and smooth skin tones.
Every day and every session is different, with different access to light, different weather, and different backdrops. If you have any questions about the way I use lighting or the type of lighting conditions you may expect at your wedding or engagement session, please contact me and ask.
As beautiful as soft lighting is, harsh lighting can also be just as creative and gorgeous. If you are interested in seeing how I use harsher, mid-day lighting, please check out my High Contrast Light Gallery.
