PHOTOGRAPHY FAQS

If your question is not listed here, please do not hesitate to contact me and ask.

WHY LOVE?

These are the years you will look back on for the rest of your lives as the memories that started it all. Photos and films are the visual representation of your memories and a tangible item that can bring those memories to life for years to come.

My couples value the visual artistry behind photography and want to have it celebrated organically and beautifully. Love by Danielle is my couples work that strives to represent each couple as their unique selves, where romance meets adventure - since isn't committing a life to someone the biggest adventure of them all? My mission is to capture both editorial style beauty with emotive candids to give you both work worthy of your home and your heart.

My favorite weddings are the most thoughtfully cared for, planned, joyful, and reflective of the uniqueness of their relationship. My couples value intimate and personal moments, belly laughs, and visually sweeping aesthetics. I value my couples deeply and feel that each film or photo set should be uniquely representative of who they are.

If you value storytelling imagery, clean aesthetic, a joyful and relaxed environment, and intimate beauty, then I'd love to learn more about your vision for your day.

CAN WE TRUST YOU WITH OUR MEMORIES?

Yes. As someone who recently got married, I understand how valuable this day is to you, both in memory and through the financial amount you have invested in it. I take a number of precautions to ensure that your photography is taken seriously and professionally.

I am fully insured and can provide documentation of coverage to your venue if needed. I shoot on two professional grade cameras so that images are covered on multiple sources. I have back-up memory cards, flash, and batteries on hand. I load your images on my computer that night and back them up to the cloud before editing, so that I know that your images are protected. I save all edits to multiple hard-drives and deliver via an online gallery to ensure that your image delivery is secure.

WHAT TYPE OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I shoot on two professional grade DSLR Canon cameras and two professional quality 35mm film cameras. I focus on using two specific lenses (one telephoto and one wide) that let me curate both portrait and landscape images in conscious ways and give variety to my shots.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?

My shooting style varies from person to person based on the situation of the room. My personality can vary from a fly-on-the-wall to joking around with you in a matter of seconds if that is what it takes to make moments happen. I keep a constant eye out for natural documentary candids, while curating styled crafted moments that encapsulate the beauty of your day.

My editing style is clean and natural color tones with a focus on healthy looking skin. I usually strive to edit for color tones similar to those you will find on fine art film. Depending on the unique light of your venue or session, I will incorporate light in both bold and subtle ways that give variety and an emotive quality to craft storytelling images.

HOW DO YOU LIGHT PHOTOS?

I am predominantly a natural light photographer, and by that I mean that I use the light that is present in natural ways. Whether your event is sunlit or candlelit, I use the light available to craft your images. At receptions occurring after dark, I will bring out artificial flash when needed. I am always happy to discuss the unique light of your day.

If you would like to view how I handle different lighting scenarios, please take a look at my HIGHLIGHTS page for galleries specifically dedicated to different lighting scenarios.

DO YOU SHOOT FILM AND DIGITAL?

Yes, and I absolutely love shooting both. You will often see this style of wedding photography referred to as "Hybrid", meaning the photographer uses a hybrid mix of film and digital. Shooting film has changed the way I photograph. It has made me look at light in new ways and I love the unique look it lends to photos. Digital is fantastic because it allows for me to take what I have learned through film and use it in a modern way.

If you are interested in having film photography included in your wedding package at no additional cost, please let me know!

HOW DO WE RECEIVE OUR PHOTOS?

Your images are delivered via an online digital gallery that you can view, download, and share with friends and family.

Downloads are available in high-resolution and web-resolution quality, which means your photos are both optimized for printing and for sharing on social media.

All of your delivered images come with personal use rights, meaning that you can totally share them on your personal social media with credit and print them whenever and wherever you please.

WHEN SHOULD WE PLAN TO BOOK?

If you are looking for a wedding photographer, I recommend looking immediately after you have booked your venue and confirmed your date. Photographers need to know your date in order to confirm availability.

Photographers have their dates booked about a year in advance of the wedding date. If you'd like to know if I have your date available, please message me via the CONTACT page.

DO YOU TRAVEL?

With bells on. (That means yes, and happy to do it! Not with literal bells, because that would be really annoying.)

I love traveling and making things simple, and so basic travel is included with US bookings of $3000 or more (with a few exceptions on the big holidays).

I am down to camp, backpack, stay overnight and shoot your rehearsal, whatever you need.

DO YOU EDIT OUR IMAGES?

Yes. I only deliver fully-edited memories of your day. I personally tone every image that I deliver for lighting and color using a combination of Lightroom and Photoshop.

When I capture and edit photos, my ultimate goal is to accentuate natural color while maintaining healthy skin tones and detail in both the highlights and shadows. Basic skin edits on portraits are included when needed.

Film images are scanned to digital files and then image corrections are made if needed.

WHAT IS A SECOND PHOTOGRAPHER?

A second photographer is just that - a second photographer there to assist when needed and help provide additional coverage for your day.

Every photographer uses their second in different ways. I primarily use mine to cover situations when I cannot be in two places at once and to give me additional angles and photo styles on ceremony and portraits. The security of having a second with me allows for me to focus on crafting images and running your day, knowing that photos are always covered.

I recommend adding a second photographer if your budget allows, especially if you have a large number of guests, a large number of family portraits, or your bridal party and groomsmen are getting ready in two separate locations.

Paul, my husband, is usually my second photographer when his schedule allows and has been trained to shoot in a style similar to my own. When he is not available, I review the specific needs of your day and look to hire a professional secure in those needs from a network of photographers I know.

WHAT ARE ADVENTURE SESSIONS?

All full day wedding packages include your choice of an adventure engagement or an adventure bridal session (destination weddings usually opt for a day-after session).

What makes it an adventure session? We do something exciting, of course! Whether that means we hike to the bluffs of the beach, dive into a desert sunset, or chase waterfalls while singing TLC, together we craft memories and visual art that highlight both your personalities and the environment that we're in.

It's pretty fun, I'm not gonna lie.

WE LOVE YOUR WORK. DO YOU OFFER ANY DISCOUNTS?

To tell you the truth, I love photography so much that if I won the lottery, I'd do it for free. Unfortunately until that day comes, I do have business costs to cover, bills to pay, and a cat to buy a lot of toys for. My rates help me to ensure that I can always be fully insured, have professionally maintained high quality equipment, secure transportation, multiple back-ups of your images, and a little leftover for enjoying all this beautiful world has to offer. Photography is my full time job and helps me to support myself and my family.

For military service men and women, teachers, nurses, fire persons and police persons, I am happy to offer a 5% discount on photography rates.

CAN YOU HELP US STYLE OUR SESSION?

Absolutely, and honestly I love to do it. Please contact me and we can discuss how to plan the perfect outfit and curate a look that makes you truly pop in your photos.

HOW MUCH WILL THIS COST?

I work with each unique couple to design a package that fits their needs. Average investment in my wedding photography services is in the $3000 range and includes all travel, taxes and fees in the quote. Wedding videography services begin at $600.

Please contact me with your budget, details about your day, and why you are drawn to my photography, and we can design a package that provides the coverage you need.

SHOULD WE HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER?

A planner is always helpful and appreciated by any photographer. Having a planner helps to ensure that your other creative vendors can can focus more on creating and covering the moments of your day and not on running your timeline.

Venue coordinators are helpful, but are much different than a planner. Venue coordinators are there to run the day for the venue. Planners are there to help coordinate the day for the couple's specific goals and needs. I hired a planner for my wedding and I do not regret making that investment for a second. It truly allowed us to live more in the moment instead of running the day. If you need a recommendation on a wonderful planner, please let me know.

WE HAVE A QUESTION NOT LISTED HERE.

Please do not let that question go burning and unasked. I am happy to answer whatever I can, whether about my photography or photography in general.

Finding the right wedding photographer who vibes with you, your partner, and your family and who can craft the memories in a style that you will make you re-envision the day with a smile for the rest of your lives is so important.  If you have any questions about what might work for your day and your vision, I'm more than happy to help.

You can ask via email on my CONTACT page or we can set up a call or video chat to run through anything you want to know.
